28474 (2024). Hon Dr Duncan Webb to the Minister of Justice: Is the Minister expecting an increase in work for the Public Defence Service in light of the policy settings adopted by the government in respect of law and order?

Hon Paul Goldsmith: Legal aid is a demand-based service which can be driven by several factors including the number of cases progressing through the courts, personal circumstances, legal needs, and availability of lawyers. The Legal Services Commissioner will continue to work with the Public Defence Service on the allocation of legal aid cases in the regions that PDS operates.
