28437 (2026). Camilla Belich to the Minister for Māori Development: What specific purposes are Te Puni Kōkiri's 25 Microsoft Copilot licences being used for, and is Copilot used in any way to process or analyse data relating to Māori, iwi, or whānau, and what consideration has been given to Māori data sovereignty in doing so?
Hon Tama Potaka: I am advised by Te Puni Kōkiri that the department holds 35 Microsoft Copilot licences. These licences are used to support general productivity tasks, including drafting documents, summarising information, supporting research activities, and enhancing written outputs. I am further advised these licenses are not used for the processing or analysis of data relating to Māori, Iwi, or whānau.
