28431 (2026). Hon Willow-Jean Prime to the Minister for Social Development and Employment: What advice about financial payments, if any, does the Ministry of Social Development and Employment provide survivors of abuse in care, or their lawyers, who have had a claim settled with the Ministry of Social Development and Employment, but have another claim lodged against a non-state actor where the survivor also experienced abuse in care?
Hon Louise Upston: I am advised by the Ministry of Social Development (the Ministry) that where the Ministry has settled a claim, it will only be aware of any corresponding claim made against an NGO if it has been advised of this by the claimant, their representative, or the NGO itself. In such cases, it is not the role of the Ministry to provide advice to the survivor.
