28340 (2025). Ingrid Leary to the Minister for Mental Health: What actions, if any, is the Government taking to address the decline in access to specialist mental health and addiction services?

Hon Matt Doocey: The Mental Health and Wellbeing Commission issued a report which showed a decline in access to specialist mental health and addiction services from 2018/19 to 2023/24 as a percentage of the New Zealand population. Since becoming Minister for mental Health amongst other initiatives I have set targets for access to specialist mental health services which are reported quarterly and have shown improvement in the first and second quarters so far reported.
