28308 (2026). Camilla Belich to the Minister of Justice: In how many cases, if any, was a director or member of a board or committee excluded from or absent for more than one-third of agenda items during their tenure at any agency, department, Crown entity, company, or other organisation for which the Minister is responsible since 27 November 2023, broken down by organisation, role, the proportion of items missed, and the total remuneration paid for the period concerned, as at 10 June 2026?
Hon Paul Goldsmith: I am advised that in relation to the Ministry of Justice, between 27 November 2023 and 10 June 2026, there is one committee member absent for more than one third of agenda items during their tenure as committee member of the Ministry of Justice Risk and Assurance Committee. The member was only paid for the meetings they attended. The total remuneration for this committee member for this period was $3,117.39. Members of the Ministry’s Board are sometimes absent from some agenda items due to a normal range of illness, leave or meeting clashes. An exact number would require significant collation. In relation to Crown entity information, the answer to your question is not centrally held in the form requested. Information about agenda-item attendance, exclusions from agenda items, conflict of interest management, and remuneration for members of Crown entity boards is generally held by the relevant Crown entity. A complete response in the form requested would require significant collation and would need to be sought from the relevant Crown entities. I am also advised there are various other groups that operate in or alongside the Ministry that may be described as committees, but do not provide organisational governance. For Ministry and Crown entity boards, as per Speaker’s Ruling 199/6, I do not consider it to be in the public interest to undertake an exercise to identify and collate the material requested, as it will require a significant diversion of resource. The Member may wish to consider asking a more specific question.
