28209 (2024). Hon Ginny Andersen to the Minister for Mental Health: Is he concerned people could harm themselves or others, if Police are not attending mental health call outs?
Hon Matt Doocey: I am advised that Police will continue to attend calls where there is a threat to life or safety, which they are best placed to do. Health New Zealand is best placed to provide an acute mental health service response when needed, and this is available through Health New Zealand’s Crisis Assessment Teams. There is also a range of supports available to people experiencing mental distress, including telehealth, digital and face-to-face services.
