28200 (2024). Hon Ginny Andersen to the Minister of Police: How much social harm from illicit drug trade have Police prevented since December 2023, if any?

Hon Mark Mitchell: I am advised that Police uses the 2020 Illicit Drug Harm Index (DHI 2020) published by the Ministry of Health to estimate the cost of harmful illicit drug use. The DHI 2020 could also be used to estimate an amount of illicit drug harm prevented however, the results would be based solely on the quantity of drugs seized by Police during a specific period and take no account of other Police activity that has reduced, or prevented, illicit drug crime.
