28196 (2025). Hon Peeni Henare to the Minister of Foreign Affairs: Is MFAT planning to upgrade any existing honorary consulates in India (e.g. in Chennai or Kolkata) to full consulates or consulates-general, and if not, why?

Rt Hon Winston Peters: No. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade has no plans to open a consulate-general in either Chennai or Kolkata, but the Ministry is taking other steps to implement the Coalition Government's direction to expand New Zealand's diplomatic footprint in India.
