28189 (2025). Hon Peeni Henare to the Minister of Foreign Affairs: What policies or criteria does MFAT use to determine the staffing levels and composition (the ratio of staff posted from New Zealand to staff employed at post) at each diplomatic mission?

Rt Hon Winston Peters: A number of factors are used to determine staffing levels and composition in the Ministry's offshore diplomatic network of posts. This includes taking, account of the Government's foreign policy, trade and development priorities, the nature and scale of the different relationships that are managed by individual posts, and the local operating environment for each post.
