28186 (2025). Hon Peeni Henare to the Minister of Foreign Affairs: How does MFAT measure the effectiveness of its initiatives and resource allocations in India in achieving its foreign policy objectives?

Rt Hon Winston Peters: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade's Strategic Framework includes an area of focus on deepening New Zealand's relationship with India. The Ministry reports on progress made in each focus area in its annual reports. The Ministry assesses that good progress has been made in deepening the New Zealand-India relationship. This has been achieved by increasing the tempo and seniority of Ministerial engagements; launching negotiations towards a Free Trade Agreement; signing a Defence Cooperation Arrangement; and advancing a range of other bilateral initiatives in relation to customs, horticulture, forestry, education, and sport.
