Written Question
Published date: 23 Jun 2026
28176 (2026). Camilla Belich to the Minister for Land Information: How many agenda items, if any, was each director or member of any board, committee, or other body of any agency, department, Crown entity, company, or other organisation for which the Minister is responsible excluded from or absent for since 27 November 2023, broken down by organisation, role, whether the director or member was subject to a conflict of interest management plan, the number of items excluded because of a conflict of interest, the number missed for other reasons, and the total number of items the person was present for as a proportion of all agenda items considered during their tenure, as at 10 June 2026?
Mike Butterick: I am responsible for three statutory boards – the Ngā Pou Taunaha o Aotearoa New Zealand Geographic Board (NZGB), Valuers Registration Board (VRB) and Cadastral Surveyors Licensing Board (CSLB).
Information relating to agenda items in which directors or members of these three boards were absent from due to a conflict of interest are outlined below. Specific detail around how many agenda items directors or members were absent from, for any other reason, would require a manual review of all agendas since 27 November 2023 for all three boards, and cannot be done within the timeframes of a Written Parliamentary Question without an unreasonable impact on the operations of Land Information New Zealand (LINZ). Note that conflict of interest management plans have not been required for any member of the above boards as outlined in my response to WPQ 28166 (2026).
NZGB: In the specified period, one appointed board member was excluded from discussion of one item at one meeting.
VRB: The Board held 26 meetings within the specified period. Of those meetings, two Board members from the same firm but different offices were excluded from a discussion on specific complaint investigation files involving their firm on four separate occasions. A third Board member was excluded from a discussion on specific complaint investigation files on two separate occasions for similar reasons noted above.
CSLB: No board member was excluded from discussion of an agenda item due to a conflict of interest in the specified period.
