28148 (2025). Tangi Utikere to the Minister for Rail: How will the recently announced $604 million in rail funding be used to support long-term workforce development and address skills shortages in the sector, if at all?

Rt Hon Winston Peters: The $604 million contributes to the wider three-year Rail Network Investment Programme and remediating and upgrading the metropolitan networks. The certainty of funding enables future planning for the workforce serving the maintenance and renewals of the entire rail network, albeit with expectations to deliver all work efficiently.
