28144 (2025). Ingrid Leary to the Minister for Children: What assessments, if any, have been conducted to ensure that the net reduction of $50 million in Oranga Tamariki’s back-office administration costs, as outlined in Oranga Tamariki Performance Report Quarter One 2024/25, do not adversely affect frontline services and the wellbeing of children?
Hon Karen Chhour: I am advised Oranga Tamariki is focused on its core purpose, putting the safety of children and young people first, and this principle was at the core of the restructure. Frontline roles were specifically out of scope, and instead it looked to create efficiencies and streamline national office functions.
I am further advised Oranga Tamariki will continue to monitor its performance as a result of changes it makes and take proactive steps to identify solutions if shifts in service are identified.
