28126 (2024). Hon Willow-Jean Prime to the Minister for Social Development and Employment: What, specifically, does the appropriation 'Historic Claims of Abuse in Care' fund to enable the Ministry of Social Development to resolve claims of historic abuse in care?

Hon Louise Upston: This appropriation is limited to resolving claims of people who report experiencing abuse or neglect prior to 1 April 2017 while in the care, custody, guardianship, or came to the notice, of the state. This also includes assisting and responding to reviews and inquiries of the historic child welfare system, and the redress and rehabilitation process. As a part of the resolution process, claimants can access funding for counselling and legal support.
