27967 (2026). Hon Ginny Andersen to the Minister of Education: What reaccreditation process of Initial Teacher Education (ITE) providers, if any, are Ministry of Education officials aware of and what advice, if any, have they provided to her, the Teaching Council or the Ministry of Education on any such process?

Hon Erica Stanford: Approval of initial teacher education (ITE) programmes is an ongoing statutory function of the Teaching Council. Ministry of Education officials are aware that the Teaching Council is implementing a specific process to support ITE providers seeking reapproval of programmes under the 2026 professional standards. Ministry officials have advised the Teaching Council that they would like to be consulted ahead of the Council making decisions on ITE programmes or related operational policies. I have not received any advice from the Ministry on the reaccreditation process.
