27914 (2026). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: What services or treatments provided in or by public hospitals are patients charged a fee for, if any, and what is the fee for each?
Hon Simeon Brown: I am advised that publicly funded inpatient services; day patient services, and any community referred services provided in the hospital setting, are provided to eligible patients free of charge. This includes all services and supplies associated with hospital treatment. I refer the Member to the Health New Zealand website for information about eligibility: www.healthnz.govt.nz/hospitals-services/eligibility-subsidies/publicly-funded-healthcare. I am further advised that co-payments are permitted nationally for dental, orthotic, and pharmacy services. The co-payments for these services are outlined in the Ministry of Health’s Service Coverage Expectations 2025-26, available online at www.health.govt.nz/system/files/2025-08/service-coverage-expectations-2025-26.pdf
