27851 (2025). Hon Marama Davidson to the Minister for the Prevention of Family and Sexual Violence: How are the savings required by Optimising the Ministry's Back-Office Functions being achieved, and will there be any effect on frontline service provision?
Hon Karen Chhour: Te Puna Aonui is hosted by the Ministry of Justice, which was required to find cost savings in Budget 2024. The Ministry achieved this, in part, by reducing its overheads/operating costs. While the Ministry did reduce the business unit’s appropriation by $0.115 million, the Ministry also reduced (by the same amount) what it charges Te Puna Aonui in overheads. This was, therefore, a cost neutral change that did not affect services or programmes. Using definitions set by the Public Service Commission, Te Puna Aonui does not have any frontline staff.
