27676 (2026). Lan Pham to the Minister for Biosecurity: Following Reply 20185 (2026), what is the "Wild Animal Information Management System"?
Hon Andrew Hoggard: The Wild Animal Information Management System (WAIMS) is intended to support the management of introduced wild and feral animals across New Zealand. It will consolidate data and information for management use, improve national visibility and coordination of management activity, and enable the funding organisations (Ministry for Primary Industries, Department of Conservation, and regional councils) to better meet their respective statutory functions. I am advised that benefits of the system will include: productivity gains where management occurs on and around farmland; biodiversity and environmental protection; biosecurity risk management; and food safety risk management.
