27531 (2023). Hon Jo Luxton to the Minister of Finance: Does the Minister intend to “ban foreign direct investment for the purpose of converting farms to forestry to collect carbon credits” as outlined in the National Party’s ‘Getting Back to Farming’ document, and if so, what advice, reports, briefings, aide memoires, or any other documents has the Minister, or any member of their Office received during the week of 27 November 2023, on this by title and date?

Hon Nicola Willis: As outlined in the Speech from the Throne, the Government will limit the conversion of productive farmland to forestry for carbon farming purposes. I did not receive advice, reports, briefings, aide memoires, or any other documents specifically on this matter during the week of 27 November. However, a Treasury Report Build-to-Rent and the Overseas Investment Act [T2023/1995] refers to this.
