27318 (2025). Hon Dr Deborah Russell to the Minister of Climate Change: Has he undertaken any risk assessment of over-reliance on a single Carbon Capture project to meet a third of its planned emissions reductions for 2025–2030?

Hon Simon Watts: Yes. Risks of this nature are mitigated through the adaptive management approach to the Second Emissions Reduction Plan. This carbon capture and storage project made up approximately one third of the additional abatement in the second Emissions Budget from new actions included in the Second Emissions Reduction Plan. However, it reflects a much smaller percentage of total emissions reductions that this Government expects to achieve over the 2025-2030 time period.
