27309 (2025). Hon Priyanca Radhakrishnan to the Minister for Disability Issues: How many people included in the care and support workers' pay equity claim are employed in disability support services?

Hon Louise Upston: I am advised by the Ministry of Social Development that Health New Zealand is the lead Government agency for Care and Support Workers pay equity claims. In 2024, Health NZ estimated that there are approximately 19,500 Care and Support workers employed through providers who receive funding from Disability Support Services (DSS), or who are employed by disabled people through individualised funding arrangements.
