26904 (2025). Hon Barbara Edmonds to the Minister of Internal Affairs: What cuts or reprioritised savings, if any, in the Votes the Minister has responsibility for, if any, in 2025/26 were the result of an underspend in 2024/25 year?

Hon Brooke van Velden: There were no cuts or reprioritised savings in Vote Internal Affairs for 2025/26 that were a direct result of underspend in 2024/25.   However, in Budget 2025, the Department of Internal Affairs returned part of the funding received in 2022/23 for the administration of the Cyclone Gabrielle Appeal Trust. This funding is no longer required as all available trust funds have been distributed and the trust dissolved.  Of the $2.222 million funding received for 2024/25 and 2025/26, $1.267 million ($0.378 million in 2024/25 and $0.889 million in 2025/26) was returned in Budget 2025.
