26860 (2024). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Customs: In the Minister’s departments, ministries and agencies for which savings have been identified resulting from the Government’s directive to reduce expenditure in the public service, if any, how many employees who have lost or are set to lose their roles, as well as vacancies that will not be filled, are Pāsefika, as at 30 May 2024?
Hon Casey Costello: I am advised that these decisions are the responsibility of the Comptroller of the New Zealand Customs Service (Customs). However, I am aware that 110 roles at Customs have been disestablished as part of Customs’ organisational changes to meet required cost savings and future cost pressures, and 31 new roles have been created. Customs is still in the process of reassigning employees affected by the organisational change. As of 30 May 2024, 33 staff members at Customs have accepted voluntary redundancy or enhanced early retirement, and an additional six have so far agreed to redundancy. Of these 39 staff members, one is Pasifika.
