Written Question

26581 (2026). Camilla Belich to the Prime Minister: Which agencies, departments, Crown entities, companies, or other organisations for which the Minister is responsible, if any, have been required to identify or deliver baseline savings or staffing reductions since 27 November 2023, and how much, if anything, has each delivered, broken down by organisation and year, as at 5 June 2026?
Rt Hon Christopher Luxon: In my capacity as the Prime Minister, I am the responsible minister for the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (DPMC). The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) was a departmental agency hosted by DPMC until 25 September 2025. The Cyclone Recovery Chief Executive was a functional Chief Executive appointed under the Public Service Act 2020 in March 2023 and disestablished with effect from 1 July 2025. My response includes NEMA information to 24 September 2025. I advise that savings identified for Vote Prime Minister and Cabinet are listed by initiative, by financial year, in the Summary of Initiatives for each Budget, which are available on The Treasury website as set out below. Budget 2023 Summary of Initiatives: B2 Wellbeing Budget 2023 - Support for Today, Building for Tomorrow - Summary of Initiatives - 18 May 2023 Budget 2024 Summary of Initiatives: www.treasury.govt.nz/sites/default/files/2024-06/b24-sum-initiatives.pdf, Budget 2025 Summary of Initiatives: www.treasury.govt.nz/sites/default/files/2025-05/b25-sum-initiatives.pdf.
