Camilla Belich to the Minister of Internal Affairs: Which agencies, departments, Crown entities, companies, or other organisations for which the Minister is responsible, if any, have been required to identify or deliver baseline savings or staffing reductions since 27 November 2023, and how much, if anything, has each delivered, broken down by organisation and year, as at 5 June 2026?

Hon Brooke van Velden: Department of Internal Affairs: Since 27 November 2023, the Department of Internal Affairs has delivered operating baseline savings of $34.970 million per annum, as at 5 June 2026, comprising: • $26.879 million in Budget 2024 • $2.575 million in Budget 2025 • $5.516 million in Budget 2026. These savings have been achieved through a range of measures, including some staff reductions. The figures above exclude the Ministry for Ethnic Communities. Classification Office: I am advised that the Classification Office has not been asked to find baseline saving or staffing reductions. Through my Ministerial letter of Expectations to the Chief Censor, as the Chair of the Classification Office, I set the expectation that the Classification Office identify material savings and efficiency improvements including trade-offs and impacts on our ability to carry out our functions. The Classifications Office also received a similar letter of expectations from the Minister of Finance and Minister for the Public Service (April 2024). Lotto New Zealand: I am advised that Lotto New Zealand has not been required to identify or deliver baseline savings or staffing reductions since 27 November 2023. Fire and Emergency New Zealand: Fire and Emergency receives an Annual Crown Contribution of $8m to recognise the public good component of services. This reduced from $10m in 2024/25.
