Camilla Belich to the Minister of Education: How many staff, if any, at any agency, department, Crown entity, company, or other organisation for which the Minister is responsible, since 27 November 2023, have been made redundant, broken down by month and by (a) voluntary redundancy and (b) all other forms of redundancy; and of those, how many have subsequently been appointed to a new role at the same agency, broken down by employment status (contractor, consultant, permanent, part-time), as at 5 June 2026?

Hon Erica Stanford: The total number of staff made redundant at the Ministry of Education from 27 November 2023 to 31 May 2026 is 353. Of those staff, 306 left due to voluntary redundancy when it was an option in one change programme only. Five were subsequently appointed to a new role. Please see the attached tables for a year/month breakdown of staff made redundant and reemployed staff. I am advised by Education New Zealand (ENZ) that, between 27 November 2023 and 5 June 2026, there were 17 staff redundancies, broken down by month below: December 2024: 1 January 2025: 12 March 2025: 1 June 2025: 1 November 2025: 1 April 2026: 1 None were voluntary redundancies and none of the staff made redundant have subsequently been appointed to a new role at ENZ. I am advised by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority that, between 27 November 2023 and 5 June 2026, there were 26, broken down by month below: August 2024: 17 (16 voluntary) September 2024: 6 (1 voluntary) October 2024: 3 (2 voluntary) January 2025: 1 March 2025: 1 July 2025: 2 October 2025: 1 February 2026: 8 March 2026: 1 None of the staff made redundant have subsequently been appointed to a new role at NZQA. I am advised by the Education Review Office that, given the low number of redundancies between 27 November 2023 and 5 June 2026, a breakdown cannot be provided due to privacy. None of the staff made redundant have subsequently been appointed to a new role at ERO.
