26059 (2024). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister for Sport and Recreation: In the Minister’s departments, ministries and agencies for which savings have been identified resulting from the Government’s directive to reduce expenditure in the public service, if any, what savings have been identified, as at 30 May 2024?
Hon Chris Bishop: The Sport NZ Group is delivering savings necessary to meet the 7.5% reduction in funding required as part of Budget 24. A range of Sport initiatives will stop at the end of the current year (2023/24) or during 2024/25. There were several reasons why these initiatives were discontinued, including that they were: - discrete projects/initiatives that have a defined end date; - large scale evaluations ending at the conclusion of their contract; - funded by the COVID-19 contingency funding, which comes to an end on 30 June 2023/24; and - impacted by the establishment of the new Integrity Sport and Recreation Commission (ie Sport NZ's integrity work programme has changed).
