Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Statistics: What briefings or advice, if any, has the Minister received on the fiscal implications of redundancies – voluntary or not – in each of the Minister’s departments, ministries and agencies (where applicable within their portfolio) resulting from the Government’s directive to reduce expenditure in the public service, listed by title and date, as at 30 May 2024?

Hon Andrew Bayly: As part of advice relating to Stats NZ’s 7.5 percent savings target for Budget 2024, I have not received any formal briefings on the fiscal implications of redundancies from Stats NZ. I do, however, regularly meet with Stats NZ officials and was briefed on the fiscal implications of redundancies following Stats NZ’s organisational restructure completed in December 2023.
