25947 (2024). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Corrections: In the Minister’s departments, ministries and agencies for which savings have been identified resulting from the Government’s directive to reduce expenditure in the public service, if any, what savings have been identified, as at 30 May 2024?
Hon Mark Mitchell: I am advised that Corrections has identified the following cost savings, all over four years, as part of the Government’s directive to reduce expenditure in the public service:
• $172 million from scaling and optimising back-office support services,
• $164 million from scaling and optimising services and programmes,
• $68 million from scaling and optimising how Corrections manages assets,
• $21 million from optimising their core operations (through finding efficiencies – not cuts)
• $16 million from scaling down the High Impact Innovation Programme (HIIP) as a cross-sector initiative.
