25936 (2026). Hon Phil Twyford to the Minister of Immigration: What advice, if any, has she received on the Biometric Capability Upgrade since January 1st 2026?

Hon Erica Stanford: I have received both verbal and written advice following the decision by MBIE is late 2025 to discontinue the project. This includes advice as part of Budget 2026 which appropriates over $30m in repayable funding for the costs of writing off the project, a copy of the independent review into the project on 12 June which details significant failings by MBIE, and information in preparation for Select Committee scrutiny and the release of the review on 16 June. I have also received a formal apology from the MBIE Chief Executive for MBIE's failings on the project.
