25840 (2026). Hon Kieran McAnulty to the Minister of Housing: How many new homes, if any, did Kāinga Ora build to the Full Universal Design standard in 2024/25 and what was the average cost per square metre of those homes?

Hon Chris Bishop: Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities advises me that it delivered 562 homes to the Full Universal Design standard in the 2024/25 financial year. This included 280 newly constructed homes redeveloped on its land representing 14 percent of its total redeveloped homes, in line with statement of performance expectation 2.4 from the 2024/25 Annual Report. The remaining 282 homes were delivered through acquiring new homes from the market. Kāinga Ora further advises that it does not centrally report the average cost per square meter for those homes because while the number of Full Universal Design homes can be identified at a project level, the specific assets cannot be separately identified for cost allocation purposes.
