25833 (2026). Hon Kieran McAnulty to the Minister of Housing

25833 (2026). Hon Kieran McAnulty to the Minister of Housing: What is the average build cost per square metre for new Kāinga Ora houses delivered in 2024/25 and how many, if any, of those houses were built to a standard design?

Hon Chris Bishop: I refer the Member to the following publicly available information about Kāinga Ora's build costs: https://kaingaora.govt.nz/en_NZ/publications/tracking-our-performance/ With respect to the number of houses built to a standard design, Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities advises me that it is not possible to provide this information without diverting a significant amount of staff resources from their core duties. In accordance with Speaker’s Ruling 210/6, I consider that the time and expense of answering the Member’s question is not in the public interest.
