25803 (2026). Francisco Hernandez to the Minister of Transport: How much, if any, is the total budget in the Minister's departments, agencies, crown entities and any other bodies that the Minister is responsible for, if any, for the 2026/27 financial year on artificial intelligence- including costs on training staff, deploying systems, maintaining subscriptions and any other associated costs?

Hon Chris Bishop: NZTA is finalising the operating budgets for 2026/27 and funding levels for AI enablement have not yet been confirmed. For The Ministry of Transport, there will not be a standalone AI budget for 2026/27. From 1 July 2026, the Ministry will be disestablished and incorporated into Ministry of Cities, Environment, Regions and Transport (MCERT), and any AI-related expenditure will be determined and managed at an MCERT level. At this stage, MCERT’s AI investment profile has not yet been finalised.
