Francisco Hernandez to the Minister for Trade and Investment: How much, if any, is the total budget in the Minister's departments, agencies, crown entities and any other bodies that the Minister is responsible for, if any, for the 2026/27 financial year on artificial intelligence- including costs on training staff, deploying systems, maintaining subscriptions and any other associated costs?

Hon Todd McClay: I am advised New Zealand Trade and Enterprise budgeted $1,027,375 for the 2026/27 FY for artificial intelligence (AI) which covers personnel, consultancy, licenses, and staff training expenditure. I am advised that Invest New Zealand, in addition to certain artificial intelligence (AI) data related and license costs already contained in the shared services agreement with New Zealand Trade and Enterprise, budgeted $250k for the 2026/27 FY for AI which covers personnel, consultancy, and staff training expenditure.
