Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: What artificial intelligence or generative AI tools, if any, did Health New Zealand use to review, rewrite, summarise, or generate any content for its consolidated national website, and approximately what proportion of the migrated or rewritten content involved AI?

Hon Simeon Brown: I am advised that artificial intelligence tools were not used to generate or rewrite content at scale as part of the website consolidation programme. In limited cases, approved AI tools were used to support content development activities, such as checking alignment with internal style guides or suggesting alternative plain-language phrasing for complex content. I am further advised that all content development and editorial decisions were heavily guided by human authors and reviewers. AI outputs were not used directly without review, and all content was subject to standard editorial, governance, and quality assurance processes before publication. I am also advised that Health NZ does not hold a quantified proportion of content where AI tools were used, as these tools were applied in an ad hoc and supportive capacity rather than as a core component of the content production process.
