25636 (2026). Glen Bennett to the Minister for Tourism and Hospitality: What advice, if any, has she received on the causes of the 49% increase in hospitality liquidations over the past year?

Hon Louise Upston: I maintain regular engagement with the hospitality sector to hear directly about current operating environments. This includes ongoing meetings with hospitality peak bodies and the Hospitality Summits hosted at Parliament in 2024 and 2026. According to data from Stats NZ, the number of accommodation and food services businesses grew by 2.6 per cent in the year ended April 2026 with an average increase of 55 businesses month on month.
