25363 (2026). Vanushi Walters to the Minister of Foreign Affairs: What new operating or capital funding allocated to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Budget 2026, if any, will be used to restore climate finance reduced in the 2025/26 financial year, and what is the value of any such restoration?
Rt Hon Winston Peters: Budget 2026 contained NZ$109.8 million in Crown and departmental funding to increase New Zealand’s development and humanitarian assistance to the Pacific and Indo-Pacific for the 2027-30 triennium, including for climate change.
Programming for the new funding received in Budget 2026 will be driven by the Ministry’s strategic planning process for the new triennium, which will confirm the geographic balance and thematic priorities for the International Development Cooperation Programme. No decisions have been made yet on the level of funding that specific countries, programmes or thematic priorities will receive for the 2027-30 triennium.
