24618 (2026). Dr Tracey McLellan to the Minister of Corrections: How many full-time equivalent roles, if any, have been disestablished since 1 January 2024 as part of, or in connection with, savings, optimisation, scaling, reprioritisation, fiscal sustainability, or efficiency initiatives in Vote Corrections, broken down by business group, role type, and month?

Hon Mark Mitchell: I am advised that 294 roles have been disestablished since 1 January 2024. In the 2023/24 financial year, as part of the Government’s directive to reduce expenditure in the public service, 170 vacant roles were removed from establishment. I refer the member to Appendix One for a breakdown for the 2023/24 financial year by business group and role type. I have been advised that a breakdown by month cannot be provided without substantial collation. In the 2024/25 financial year, 44 roles were disestablished as a result of the change process for High Impact Innovation Programme and the Justice Sector Directorate, which is housed within the Ministry for Justice. Of these, 15 were vacant. 35 were permanent positions and the remaining nine were fixed-term positions. In the 2025/26 financial year, 70 roles were disestablished as a result of the People and Capability Next Steps change process. All 70 roles were permanent positions, of which 31 were vacant.
