24524 (2025). Francisco Hernandez to the Minister for Vocational Education: How many redundancy processes have been initiated, if any, in the Minister’s departments, agencies, crown entities and any other bodies that the Minister is responsible for, if any, as at 22 May 2025, since 27 November 2023, and how much was the total cost in New Zealand dollar terms, if any?
Hon Penny Simmonds: The Tertiary Education Commission has initiated four change processes since 27 November 2023, to 22 May, resulting in 32 redundancies. Of these redundancies eight are from the current 2025 change process and will result in a net reduction of 22 FTEs by 30 June 2025. The change processes are as follows: • 2025: A consultation process was released to achieve fiscal savings of 5% of the operational baseline. Final decisions were released on 7 May 2025. Impacted staff are in an expression of interest process. • 2024: A consultation was initiated to achieve fiscal savings of 6% of the operational baseline. • 2023: Restructures occurred within two directorates: -Information Directorate: Structural changes were made to three teams to meet TEC’s technology and information requirements. -Careers and Investment Design Directorate: Functions were aligned to deliver on the National Careers System Strategy work programme and transition Tahatū Careers Navigator into core business. The total cost of these redundancies between the 27 November 2023 and 22 May 2025 is $950,636.76.
