24351 (2026). Hon Damien O'Connor to the Minister for Trade and Investment: How many New Zealand Trade and Enterprise or Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade staff, if any, are funded in Budget 2026 to specifically work on investment promotion and trade development in India, and at which posts or locations?
Hon Todd McClay: New Zealand will undertake trade and investment promotion activities in both India and New Zealand to highlight investment and broader business opportunities in India for New Zealand businesses. This will build on and expand existing promotional activities, including those run by New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) and through our High Commission in India.
NZTE did not receive new funding in Budget 2026 specifically for investment promotion and trade development in India. NZTE’s activities relating to India are delivered through baseline and cross agency funding as part of normal operations. Via this, NZTE has increased its investment in India since the conclusion of the India-NZ FTA, to support its role in FTA leveraging and implementation. This has included two additional roles (one in New Zealand and one in India). NZTE currently has seven FTEs in India across its New Delhi and Mumbai offices, which will increase to eight once the India role is filled.
