Hon Damien O'Connor to the Minister for Trade and Investment: What proportion of the Protecting a Resilient, Safe and Secure Offshore Diplomatic Network for New Zealand initiative funded in Budget 2026 is attributable to sustaining New Zealand's offshore trade network as distinct from the diplomatic network, if any, and which trade posts or functions will it support, broken down by agency, department, Crown entity, company, or other organisation for which the Minister is responsible?

Hon Todd McClay: For the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT), the Protecting a Resilient, Safe and Secure Offshore Diplomatic Network for New Zealand initiative is designed to maintain MFAT’s offshore network, which will be delivered. I am advised that final decisions on the smaller components of the initiative have not yet been made. For New Zealand Trade and Enterprise, I am advised none.
