Hon Damien O'Connor to the Minister for Trade and Investment: What savings or expenditure reductions, if any, in Budget 2026 affect trade negotiation, trade promotion or trade policy functions, and what is the forecast impact on New Zealand's trade agenda, broken down by agency, department, Crown entity, company, or other organisation for which the Minister is responsible?

Hon Todd McClay: For the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, I am advised that there were no savings or expenditure reductions submitted for Vote Foreign Affairs in Budget 2026. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade is subject to 5% savings from 2027/28 and a further 5% from 2028/29. How these will be applied has not yet been determined. For New Zealand Trade and Enterprise, I am advised no reduction in trade promotion is anticipated with regards to Budget 2026.
