24333 (2025). Francisco Hernandez to the Minister of Customs: What restructures, if any, are planned for the 2025/26 financial year in the Minister’s departments, agencies, crown entities and any other bodies that the Minister is responsible for, if any, listed by when this may occur, how much is budgeted for restructuring costs and estimated savings to be accrued as a result of restructuring?
Hon Casey Costello: I am advised that as at 23 May 2025, the New Zealand Customs Service (Customs) has two proposed restructures planned. These proposals may result in up to three positions being disestablished, one of which is vacant. The proposals are not driven by cost savings, rather the changes are to realign Customs teams to better deliver services and products.
There are currently no further Customs restructures planned in the 2025/26 financial year and no specific budgets for restructuring or savings targets have been set.
Border Executive Board secretariat staff are considered employees of the New Zealand Customs Service, and the Border Executive Board is funded by contributions from member agencies. There is no restructuring planned in 2025/26 at this point and no specific budgets for restructuring or savings targets for the Secretariat have been set.
