Francisco Hernandez to the Minister of Customs: How much, if anything, is being budgeted in the 2025/26 financial year for redundancy payments, severance or other termination packages in the Minister’s departments, agencies, crown entities and any other bodies that the Minister is responsible for, if any, and how much has been budgeted and spent in the past five financial years?

Hon Casey Costello: I am advised that the New Zealand Customs Service (Customs) has not specifically budgeted for redundancy payments, severance or other termination packages in the 2025/26 financial year. I refer the Member to the attached appendix which provides the total spend on redundancy, severance, or other termination packages paid in the previous five financial years. This response is inclusive of the staff of the Border Executive Board Secretariat as these staff are considered employees of Customs.
