24327 (2025). Francisco Hernandez to the Minister of Customs: How many redundancy processes have been initiated, if any, in the Minister’s departments, agencies, crown entities and any other bodies that the Minister is responsible for, if any, as at 22 May 2025, since 27 November 2023, and how much was the total cost in New Zealand dollar terms, if any?
Hon Casey Costello: I am advised that the New Zealand Customs Service (Customs) has initiated four redundancy processes between 27 November 2023 and 22 May 2025. Redundancies have occurred as a result of the following organisational changes: - Maritime Northland, Christchurch and Timaru - 2023 - Operations Management Team restructure - 2023 - Voluntary Redundancy process and Enhanced Early Retirement - 2024 - Customs Organisational Change Process - 2024 The total cost of all four redundancy processes was $4,783,547.39. The staff of the Border Executive Board Secretariat are considered employees of the New Zealand Customs Service. No redundancy processes have been initiated in the Secretariat since 27 November 2023.
