24308 (2025). Francisco Hernandez to the Minister of Conservation: How many redundancy processes have been initiated, if any, in the Minister’s departments, agencies, crown entities and any other bodies that the Minister is responsible for, if any, as at 22 May 2025, since 27 November 2023, and how much was the total cost in New Zealand dollar terms, if any?
Hon Tama Potaka: The Department of Conservation advises me that it does not initiate redundancy processes; redundancy is the last resort for individuals if the Department is unable to re-assign them to alternative roles as part of an organisational change. As at 22 May 2025, there have been 13 organisational change proposals initiated since 27 November 2023, and only seven of these processes have so far resulted in redundancies. The total cost of redundancies from these processes, as at 21 May 2025 is $3,200,022.
