24051 (2024). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Agriculture: Of any proposed redundancies to their responsible agencies to meet the a public sector saving initiative, if any, how many directly provide a service to customers, as at 30 May 2024?

Hon Todd McClay: The Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) completed consultation with staff on change proposals; and final decisions were released to staff on 16 May 2024. MPI is currently running a reassignment process, information on which staff will be impacted by the change will not be known until the changes are implemented, which is not expected to occur until 1 July 2024. These decisions are the responsibility of the relevant Director General, however, I am advised that MPI is not proposing any reductions to frontline services and statutory roles, such as veterinarians, animal welfare, forestry managers, fishery and food compliance officers, or biosecurity teams at the border.
