23845 (2025). Arena Williams to the Minister for Building and Construction: How much consideration, if any, is the Seismic Review Steering Group placing on life safety risks in its review process?

Hon Chris Penk: The Steering Group provides oversight of the review, including to ensure the review effectively delivers on the review scope as detailed in the Seismic Review Terms of Reference. The Terms of Reference include, amongst other matters, recommending regulatory responses that balance life safety risks against the costs of regulation and impact on private property owners. A key milestone of the review is a final report summarising findings and providing recommendations for changes to the earthquake-prone building system to manage life-safety risk in existing buildings in a workable, equitable and proportionate way. This report is due in Q2 2025.
