23840 (2025). Arena Williams to the Minister for Building and Construction: How many claims, if any, were lodged and pending in the Residential Earthquake-Prone Building Financial Assistance Scheme when the Government discontinued it, and what happened to those claims?
Hon Chris Penk: The former Residential Earthquake-prone Building Financial Assistance Scheme was intended to provide loans for owner-occupiers of earthquake-prone apartments. No loans were issued prior to the scheme’s closure. There were 62 active applications which had completed the first stage of processing at the time of scheme closure. None of these applications completed the second stage to receive final loan approval. A further 12 applications were awaiting assessment by scheme operator Kāinga Ora.
