Hon Willow-Jean Prime to the Lead Coordination Minister for the Government's Response to the Royal Commission’s Report into Historical Abuse in State Care and in the Care of Faith-based Institutions: What is the estimate, if any, of how many survivors of abuse in care were tortured at Lake Alice?
Hon Erica Stanford: The Royal Commission identified 362 children who went through the Lake Alice Unit from 1972-1978. There is no specific estimate as to how many of those children suffered torture. As of 22 May, 127 survivors have been confirmed as eligible for redress for torture at the Lake Alice Child and Adolescent Unit.
